As part of my Design and Manufacturing class, we designed a robot to compete in a contest. The contest theme was “Carnival” and tasks included getting tickets, spinning the Ferris wheel, blowing up a balloon, and hitting a high striker. I choose to ring the high striker, but instead of creating a hammer mechanism to hit the lever arm, I choose to build an arm that flicked the slug up and rung the bell. In the final competition, my robot reliably completed the task scoring 25 points and winning second place in the competition. From this competition, I was chosen as one of 4 representatives from the class to attend the International Design Competition in Tokyo in August 2012.
